B.C. forests contribute ‘hidden’ carbon emissions that dwarf official numbers

January 30, 2019

“Uncounted forest emissions” represent a major hole in B.C.’s climate plan and show the need for a provincial forest emissions-reduction strategy, according to a new report by an environmental group.

Peter Wall Institute Solutions Grant recipient Stephen Sheppard (Forestry UBC) said there has to be a “multi-pronged approach” involving industry and government to reduce the impact of forest fires on carbon emissions.

Thanks to funding from our Wall Solutions program Sheppard is working on an educational place-based videogame on climate change (Future Delta 2.0) to improve climate change literacy and motivate action among students.
