Bedbug invasion: Why the itch-inducing pests are making a big comeback in a building near you

November 24, 2019

Murray Isman, a Peter Wall Distinguished Scholar, has served as a consultant for the federal government during a recent spike in the bedbug population in Ottawa. Earlier this year, bedbugs were found in 9 federal buildings and the government is offering a contract of 400,000 to exterminate the pests. Dr. Isman shared how difficult complete eradication is, given how long they can live without consuming blood.

While in residency at the Peter Wall Institute for advanced studies Dr. Isman expanded his investigation of insect behaviour.  Dr. Murray Isman is among the leading figures worldwide in the field of chemical ecology. His research represents a combination of insect behaviour and physiology with plant chemistry and toxicology.
