Dr. Dana Devine is Director, Centre for Blood Research; Chief Medical & Scientific Officer, Canadian Blood Services; and Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, in the Faculty of Medicine.
The general subject areas of research expertise of her laboratory are platelet biology, complement biochemistry and blood coagulation. Their particular experimental focus in transfusion medicine is in the area of blood product processing and storage. Ongoing research projects include studies of the storage lesion of platelet concentrates and methods to improve the quality of stored platelet concentrates. Most recently, they have sought to apply leading edge technology to these research questions, in particular through the application of proteomics technology to investigations of blood products.
