Elizabeth Hartland

Elizabeth Hartland obtained her B.Sc. (Hons) majoring in Microbiology and Biochemistry and subsequently her Ph.D in Microbiology from the University of Melbourne. She has held a Royal Society/NHMRC Howard Florey Fellowship in the Department of Biochemistry, Imperial College London, Lecturer/Senior Lecturer positions in the Department of Microbiology, Monash University, Australia and an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship at the University of Melbourne. She is currently Professor of Microbiology and Head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne located in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. Professor Hartland has a long-standing research interest in the pathogenesis of infections caused by E. coli and Legionella, with a focus on mechanisms of bacterial colonization and immune evasion.
