mHealth for Infectious Disease Management: Taking Evidence to Scale
Principal Investigator(s): Dr. Richard Lester, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, UBC; Dr. Patricia Spittal, School of Population and Public Health, UBC.

Over 75 per cent of the global population has access to a mobile phone. The proliferation of this technology offers unique opportunities for healthcare and behaviour change communication in ways never before realized. The World Health Organization (WHO) goes as far as saying that using mobile phones for patient engagement (mHealth) has the “potential to transform the face of health service delivery across the globe.” Indeed, there are already many successful small-scale pilots testing mHealth interventions as well as some commercial industry investment, but a global scale up of mHealth solutions has yet to happen. This international mHealth roundtable will provide an opportunity for leading innovators, clinicians, developers, activists, industry stakeholder partners, and community members to come together to envision a way to harness and grow the evidence base supporting mHealth development.
