Drug resistance a rising threat in Canada
November 13, 2019

Drug resistance is an “existential threat” that could have a wide-ranging impact on Canadian health, economy, and society, a new report says. The report also looked at the potential social implications of antibiotic resistance, warning Canadian society may become less open and trusting, with people less likely to travel and more likely to limit their activities out of concern for infection. Brett Finlay, a Peter Wall Distinguished Scholar, chaired the report. Finlay compared drug resistance to global warming as a “threat to humanity,” demonstrating the urgency of the problem.
