In the ever-evolving field of music therapy, professionals are tapping into the enormously powerful healing properties of music to improve the physical and emotional health of a wide range of patients.
In this FREE event, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts partners with UBC’s Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies to celebrate Music Therapy Awareness month with a screening of the CMTTF’s 2012 documentary The Gift of Music: Stories of Music Therapy, followed by an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the benefits of music therapy in the treatment of chronic diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.
This panel will feature neurologist Robin Hsiung from the Department of Medicine of UBC; music therapist Susan Summers from Capilano University; and counselor and music therapy advocate Ruth Armstrong. The event will be moderated by Music Heals’ Patrick Zulinov. Come hear the extraordinary stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed by music.
