A cerebral aneurysm is a balloon-like bulge that develops on blood vessels of the brain as a result of weakening of the vessel wall layers. Clotting in cerebral aneurysms can either serve to stabilise an aneurysm, or can accelerate the time to rupture.
The study of cerebral aneurysm thrombosis on a per patient basis can be achieved by coupling flow, biochemistry and front-tracking methods. Different porosity and permeability values are assigned to the clot field, making it possible for the clot to have an impact on the flow field and vice versa. In this talk, Dr. Malebogo Ngoepe will detail the development of this model and highlight some of the key questions that remain.
Dr. Ngoepe is visiting the Peter Wall Institute as an Iso Lomso Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, South Africa.
