Surveys suggest that there is a generational and social gap in the use of digital reading devices, but also a shift from reading for knowledge to reading for well-being. Brigitte Ouvry-Vial will discuss the challenge faced by today’s bookish actors and industries of meeting the users’ expectations in changing societies and media cultures.

This talk is a confrontation between reading practices currently observed among diverse communities of readers and the findings from interdisciplinary approaches (at the crossroads between cultural history, cognitive studies and media studies) on the evolution of reading from the past until today.

Brigitte Ouvry-Vial is an expert in 20th century French literature and publishing, as well as the co-director of Editions L’Inventaire, an independent literary publishing house in Paris. She is also the head of the Institut des Sciences Humaines et Sociales.
