Physical inactivity is a “global pandemic” and the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. Evidence is irrefutable that regular participation in aerobic and resistance-based physical activity, can prevent a host of debilitating and costly health problems and improve a wide range of health outcomes. Seeds that grow these positive lifestyle behaviours must be planted during childhood. The challenge becomes—if we know what to do to improve health, how do we engage schools, teachers, children, and youth in actually ‘doing it’.

Professor Lubans will outline effective implementation strategies used to deliver physical activity in primary and secondary school settings. Featured studies will include interventions designed to reduce sitting and promote light activity, increase muscular fitness, increase moderate-to-vigorous activity within and beyond the school day, and improve cardiorespiratory fitness using HITT training.

Lunch will be served from 11:30 – 12:30 pm on a first come basis. This talk will be located in the Rudy North Theatre, room LL101.
