Children and adolescents involved with the criminal justice system are distinguished by poor health and health risk behaviours, often set against a backdrop of trauma and entrenched, intergenerational disadvantage. In this lecture, Stuart Kinner will provide an overview of what is known about the health of young people involved in the youth justice system, and focus on recent research using data linkage to examine patterns of mortality among young people exposed to the youth justice system in Australia.
Professor Stuart Kinner is Head of the Justice Health Unit in the Centre for Health Equity, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne; and leads the Justice Health Group in the Centre for Adolescent Health, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. He also holds academic appointments at University of Queensland, Monash University, Griffith University, and the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement.
Registration is not required for this event.
This event is in partnership with UBC’s School of Population and Public Health.
