Fixing Fixers | Peter Klein

The secret weapon of the “foreign correspondent” is the “fixer,” local journalists who help with everything from reporting to securing interviews to translating to arranging lodging and transportation. These fixers are usually hidden from the public, rarely having an editorial role in the finished work of journalism. Global Reporting Centre director Peter Klein argues that the practice of using a fixer should be more transparent, and he offers alternatives to the old “parachute journalism” model of global reporting.
