Living close to major roads leads to higher risk of Parkinson’s and dementia: UBC study

2017 Wall Scholar Michael Brauer, co-authored a study on the effects of proximity to sources of air pollution on neurological health. The study analyzed data from 678,000 individuals between 1994 and 2003 in the greater Vancouver area. The study focused on four neurological disorders; Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and Dementia. 

While at the Peter Wall Institute, Brauer focused on developing an improved understanding of health relationships between urban form and urban services as well as the potential to derive future health co-benefits related to urban design.
