2022 Wall Scholar Pasang Sherpa was recently featured in Carbon Brief, a UK-based website covering the latest developments in climate science, climate policy and energy policy.
She spoke about her research into the human dimensions of climate change, including the effect on the lives and culture of the Himalayan people as part of a week long special series on loss and damage caused by climate change.
For the Khumbu Sherpas of the Mount Everest Himalayan region, glaciers are places where spiritual beings reside. This means that it is vitally important to make sure they are not polluted …There are people who look at the mountains and see only the ice and snow and glaciers. They don’t see the people who actually live there.
