Since the launch of its first residential and thematic programs in 1994, the Institute has gained a progressively higher profile in the community and abroad. Through events and research opportunities at the Institute, strategic alliances have been forged between UBC researchers and the world’s leading scholars and institutions.
The Peter Wall Institute has partnered with the Consulate General of France in Vancouver / Consulat général de France à Vancouver to bring leading French scholars to UBC.

The Peter Wall Institute is actively engaged with some of the world's most dynamic institutes for advanced study. Partnerships of deep substance have been forged with the forerunner of all institutes for advanced study, the Collège de France in Paris, established in 1530.
The Institute has partnered with South Africa's premier institute for advanced study, in Stellenbosch, South Africa: Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS).
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) was founded in 2005. The Institute's Director is a founding member of the International Board of Trustees.
The Institute is a member of the University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study Network (UBIAS). The network was established to enable structured forms of exchange among institutes around the world, including bi-annual conferences, and joint programmes between partner institutes.In September 2013, the Institute hosted the bi-annual UBIAS Conference on Scientific and Academic Knowledge.
