Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies will host Witness Webinar on privacy rights and the COVID-19 pandemic

May 2, 2020

On Tuesday (May 5) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the relationship between technology, privacy, and addressing the pandemic will be explored in a “Witness Webinar” presented by the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies on the UBC Zoom platform.

This event is co-organized by a PWIAS COVID-19 Rapid Publication Working Group lead by Victoria Lemieux (School of Information and Blockchain@UBC Co-Lead) that will bring together experts on ethical, legal, and social implications of public health technologies to explore the challenges, risks, and benefits of deploying novel technologies in the response to COVID-19. This working group is also looking to open a dialogue with public health officials and the public about the challenges, risks and benefits; and use the exploration and dialogue to write a public policy paper that lays out the challenges, risks and benefits and sets out a framework that can be used in public policy decision-making and technology design.
