Our guest for this episode is Lisa Sundstrom, a professor of Political Science at UBC. Sundstrom is also an associate of the Peter Wall Institute, and an expert on comparative politics with a focus on Russia and the former Soviet Union as well as Central and Eastern Europe.

In this episode, Kalina Christoff and Lisa Sundstrom discuss what western societies can learn from Russia, as well as Eastern Europe, when it comes to coping with hardships and protecting civil liberties in times of crisis. They talk in depth about the varying levels of COVID-19 lockdowns in different countries and the social and political consequences of new legislation and government action.
