Prof. Bethany Hastie is an Assistant Professor at the Peter A Allard School of Law, UBC. She holds an LLM and DCL from McGill University, where she held the O’Brien Fellowship in Human Rights and Legal Pluralism and a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship. At UBC, Prof. Hastie was appointed a Green College Leading Scholar (2017-2019), and has been awarded a SSHRC Insight Development Grant, as well as research funding from the Canadian Bar Association Law for the Future Fund, and BC Law Foundation.
Prof. Hastie’s research examines issues attending precarious labour in the intersecting spaces of labour and employment, migration, and human rights law. Her existing work includes an examination of the constitutional foundations for collective workplace representation in Canada, a comparative assessment of sexual harassment law in BC and Ontario, and a pan-Canadian study on legislative regulation of migrant worker recruitment and employment.
