Department of Medicine, Division of Respiratory Medicine

Dr. Scott Tebbutt is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC), and Chief Scientific Officer of the Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF) Centre of Excellence - a not-for-profit organization dedicated to moving research findings into health care, and focused on non-invasive biomarkers that can diagnose and/or predict organ failure (heart, lung and kidney). He is Principal Investigator at the James Hogg Research Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, Institute for Heart + Lung Health, St. Paul’s Hospital, in Vancouver.  His research interests are focused on the development of genetic analysis technologies, and the investigation of complex, chronic diseases of the airways, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The major theme of his current research program is concerned with understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie the early and late-phase allergic responses to allergen exposures, and also translating this molecular knowledge into real-world applications in the form of diagnostics. His lab uses a multi-disciplinary approach involving molecular biology and genetics, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics and computer science, with strong clinical collaborative support.
