One of the best aspects of the Wall Scholar’s Program is the freedom it gives for unconstrained thinking and discussion. There is no other space at the university that allows this kind of freedom. This is what enables such transformational, rich experiences among the Wall Scholars who participate.
The intellectual support I experienced at PWIAS during my time as a Scholar and associate both inspired, and logistically supported, the completion of two manuscripts as well as the securing of several external grants. The combination of an environment of engaged and lively scholars and the interest and involvement of the wider scholarly and artistic community is incredibly rewarding.
The value of the Wall Scholars Program, to me, goes beyond the impact on traditional metrics related to scholarship. The regular conversations and engagement forced me to examine my approach to academia at large. The time at the PWIAS has had an impact on my research, my teaching, as well as my service to the University.
The Peter Wall Institute helps support individual projects, but is also an intellectual engine on campus. It is an invaluable source of support for innovative and developing ideas and partnerships. It also consistently drives interdisciplinary research in ways that few other entities do, and fosters wonderful interdisciplinary networks on campus.
