Scientists are monitoring a new “blob” off B.C.’s coast
September 9, 2019

UBC’s Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences department professor Dr. Phillipe Tortell spoke with Stephen Quinn about “the blob” — a mass of warm water spreading towards coastal BC — and its impact on regional climate. Dr. Tortell is the former Director of the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies.
Above is the video referenced in the interview. Watch Prof. Tortell describe the conditions that led to the formation of the blob, and its effects on everything from ski conditions, salmon returns, forest fires and toxic algal blooms.
