The worst time for food banks to raise barriers to food
March 29, 2020

Even before the economic fallout of COVID-19 over 4.4 million Canadians and one in six children had to worry or reduce the food they eat because they couldn’t afford it.
Incoming 2020 Wall Scholar Jennifer Black, UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems, wrote an op-ed for The Province on the issues posed by the Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s new registration process, which she says will make it much harder for those in greatest need to access food.
As a Wall Scholar, Black will focus on developing non-traditional knowledge mobilization approaches focused on engaging children and schools in more critical discussions about the links between poverty, food insecurity and social justice.
