To help flatten the curve, let’s clean our air

March 27, 2020

2017 Wall Scholar Michael Brauer co-authored an op-ed about the advantages of clean air to help combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has sparked concerns over the capacity of the health-care system and ways individuals can reduce the strain. Elevated air pollution exposure can dramatically increase the risk of complications associated with COVID-19. Brauer and his colleagues discuss the importance of additional approaches to mitigating the crisis, in order to flatten the curve and reduce the strain on the system.

Michael Brauer’s research focuses on linkages between the built environment and human health, with a specific interest in transportation-related and biomass air pollution. While at the Peter Wall Institute, Brauer focused on developing an improved understanding of the health relationships between urban form and urban services as well as the potential to derive future health co-benefits related to urban design.
