Turning Points on PBS NewsHour
December 10, 2020

Peter Klein is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, associate professor and director of the UBC School of Journalism and the founding director of the Global Reporting Centre at UBC. In 2016 he received a Wall Solutions Initative grant for his project “Turning Points: An Empowerment Connection Project for Indigenous People with Alcohol Dependence”.
The aim was to provide a platform for people from Indigenous communities across the Canadian Arctic to connect, share their experiences, tap into storytelling traditions that have been used to connect and heal people for centuries. The result is a powerful documentary series of eight short films that explore alcohol use, addiction, resilience and healing in Yellowknife — all stories are produced, directed and told by the Indigenous people themselves.
Episodes began airing on PBS NewsHour in November and will continue in the coming months. You can learn more about the project and see all the videos at Turning Points website.
