Vancouver scientists head up four-year international wildfire study

Wildfires have been front and centre in the minds of British Columbians over the last few years. Internationally, the massive scale of fires in Australia this season has been at the forefront of the news. With this in mind, 2017 Wall Solution grant recipient, Lori Daniels is a co-principal investigator on a study titled Wildfire and Carbon. This four-year study links scientists from the Canadian Forest Service, the University of British Columbia and the USDA Forest Service. It will examine the hows and the whys behind the proliferation of wildfires in B.C., Alberta, Alaska, California and Australia.
Daniels is the recipient of a 2017 Wall Solutions grant for a project called Wildfire 2017: Community-Based Solutions to a Wicked Problem, which aims to identify barriers to community participation in wildfire prevention and develop programs with provincial leaders to increase participation in preventative wildfire management in B.C.
